The Maova Village Council and MYSU condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor and urged authorities to ensure a fair investigation and justice.
DIMAPUR — The Maova Village Council (MVC) and the Maova Youth & Students' Union (MYSU) have condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor by Paominlun Gangte, a native of Maova village who has been residing permanently at Suporou Colony, Ward No. 9, Medziphema.
In a joint statement, the two bodies described the alleged offence as "heinous, inhumane and immoral," stating that such acts are unacceptable in any civilised society and are contrary to Christian values. They said crimes against children violate their dignity, innocence and fundamental rights and must be condemned without exception.
The organisations clarified that although Gangte is a native of Maova village, he did not return to settle in the village after retiring as an ex-serviceman. As such, the village authorities had no knowledge of his activities. They said the incident had come as a shock to the community.
Following the allegations, the village council summoned the accused and his family. After deliberation, the council resolved to expel Gangte from Maova village in accordance with its customary laws and practices.

It said the decision reflects the village's zero-tolerance policy towards crimes of this nature and serves as a warning that similar offences will invite the strictest action under customary law.
The council and MYSU expressed sympathy to the victim and the family, assuring support for all lawful efforts to secure justice. They also urged the district administration and police to conduct a thorough, impartial investigation and ensure that the guilty are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
