IMPHAL — Manipur reported seven more new COVID-19 positive cases on Monday, six days after the state reported its first Covid-19 case of the current wave through TrueNat testing.

As of Monday, Manipur has 20 active COVID-19 cases, with 14 in Imphal West, three in Imphal East, and one each in Bishnupur, Kakching, and Thoubal.

According to the state health department's latest COVID-19 update, 82 people were tested between June 1 and Monday, with 15 patients currently in home isolation after one COVID-19 patient was discharged in the last 24 hours.

The state government has urged the public to remain calm and continue observing COVID-appropriate behaviour. These measures are precautionary and aimed at ensuring preparedness and safety.

Meanwhile, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla chaired a COVID-19 review meeting at Raj Bhavan Imphal, following Ministry of Health directives to boost preparedness amid concerns of a potential resurgence.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary PK Singh and senior medical officials, including state Health department Director Dr. Chambo Gonmei.

“Officials briefed the Governor on the state’s preparedness, including diagnostics, protective equipment, oxygen supply, ICU and isolation wards, essential drugs, and the IDSP–IHIP portal,” the Raj Bhavan stated in a press release on Monday. “Challenges related to testing capacity, medical supplies and hospital readiness were also discussed.”

The governor also advised the importance of proactive measures, adequate medical infrastructure, and community awareness to ensure the state remains equipped to handle any potential surge in COVID-19 cases.

On June 10, Manipur reported its first Covid-19 case of the current wave - a 23-year-old student from Bishnupur district's Ngaikhong Khullen village, who tested positive via TrueNat with no recent travel history, having flown to Hyderabad the previous day.
