IMPHAL — Manipur’s active Covid-19 cases have risen to 37 with three new positive samples confirmed on Wednesday. The cases are distributed as follows: Imphal West (23), Imphal East (7), Bishnupur (4), Kakching (1), Thoubal (1), and Tengnoupal (1).

According to an update from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) of the State Health Department, a total of 147 individuals have been tested since June 1. Currently, 34 patients are under home isolation while three have been discharged.

The state government has urged the public to remain calm while continuing to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour. These measures, it said, are precautionary and intended to ensure preparedness.

On Monday, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla chaired a Covid-19 review meeting at Raj Bhavan, Imphal, in light of new directives from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Governor emphasised the importance of proactive measures, strengthening medical infrastructure, and increasing public awareness to manage any potential resurgence effectively.

Manipur’s first case in the current Covid-19 wave was reported on June 10. A 23-year-old female student from Ngaikhong Khullen village in Bishnupur district tested positive via TrueNat. She had left Imphal for Hyderabad on an Air India flight on June 9, despite no recent travel history before her diagnosis.

It may be recalled that Manipur reported its first Covid-19 case on March 24, 2020, while the first recorded fatality occurred on July 29 that year.
