IMPHAL — Manipur’s BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte, who represents Thanlon Assembly Constituency in Churachandpur district, was airlifted to New Delhi on Sunday for advanced treatment after his health condition deteriorated, officials said.
According to a press release from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Valte — a Kuki-Zo legislator who had earlier sustained grievous injuries during the May 2023 violence in Imphal — had been staying in Churachandpur following prolonged treatment in Delhi. His condition worsened on Saturday, after which he was rushed to Churachandpur Medical College Hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for stabilisation.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh monitored Valte’s condition through the night and dispatched an advanced life-support ambulance along with a team of doctors from Imphal to Churachandpur around midnight. Doctors from Imphal remained in constant touch with the medical team at Churachandpur Medical College Hospital through tele-conferencing, the release stated.

Taking personal charge of the situation, the Chief Minister arranged an air ambulance for evacuation to Delhi. Although Valte’s condition remained critical through the night, it showed signs of improvement by Sunday afternoon.
He was shifted from Churachandpur Medical College Hospital around 3 pm and was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of the district. Two BJP legislators — Tongbram Robindro Singh of Thanga and Sanasam Premchandra Singh of Kumbi, both in Bishnupur district — escorted Valte from Phoujakhai village to Imphal Airport.
Chief Minister Khemchand Singh received Valte at Imphal Airport at 4:20 pm, interacted with his family members and wished him a speedy recovery. “Pu Valte, please come back after you have fully recovered. I will wait for your return,” he said.
The air ambulance carrying the MLA took off from Imphal Airport around 4:30 pm and headed to Medanta – The Medicity Hospital in Gurugram for further treatment.
