  • Manipur Governor pays tributes to BSF constable killed in Jammu


  • Ajay Kumar Bhalla paying tribute to Deepak Chingakham at Imphal airport on Tuesday.

  • IMPHAL — Manipur Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, on Tuesday paid tributes to BSF constable, Deepak Chingakham (25), who succumbed to injuries sustained in cross-border firing by Pakistan while on duty at the international border in Jammu’s RS Pura sector on May 10.

  • The governor was accompanied by the state chief secretary, PK Singh; DGP Manipur Rajiv Singh; and state security advisor, Kulediep Singh, during wreath laying ceremony which was held at Bir Tikendrajit International airport at 2.30 pm after the mortal remains of the deceased jawan was brought by an Indigo flight around 1 pm.

  • Prior to the governor’s arrival, BSF personnel led by its IG, ID Singh, and DIG, Dipankar Saha, paid floral tribute to the departed soul. The GOC of 57 Mountain Division, Inspector General of Assam Rifles, CRPF and Additional DGP of Manipur also attended the wreath laying ceremony.

  • Lok Sabha MP, Bimol Akoijam; Maharaj Leishemba Sanajaoba; former union minister Dr. RK Ranjan Singh; and Congress MLAs Okram Surjakumar and K Ranjit, and BJP MLA Kh Ibomcha were also present on the occasion.

  • Constable Deepak Chingakham of 7 Battalion BSF was seriously injured during cross-border firing by Pakistan along the international boundary in RS Pura area of Jammu on May 10, where he succumbed to his injuries on the following day.

  • Deepak, a resident of Yairipok Mathak Leikai in Imphal East, joined BSF as a constable in 2021. He is survived by his father, mother and one brother.

  • Later, the mortal remains of the martyr was taken to his native place Yairipok Mathak Leikai in Manipur’s Imphal East district, where the last rites of the braveheart were performed with full state honour.

  • On Monday, the state government had announced an ex-gratia of INR 10 lakh ex-gratia for the family of BSF constable Deepak Chingakham under the Major Laishram Jyotin Singh Ashok Chakra  Scheme for martyrs and their families.
