Manipur government announces INR 10 lakh ex-gratia for martyred BSF jawan

  • IMPHAL — Manipur government has announced an ex-gratia of INR 10 lakh ex-gratia for the family of Border Security Force(BSF) constable Deepak Chingakham who was killed by the Pakistan forces during the cross-border firing along the International Boundary in RS Pura area of Jammu.

  • In a press release on Monday, the PRO Raj Bhavan, Imphal, stated that the state government announced an ex gratia of INR 10 lakh to the martyr’s next of kin under the Major Laishram Jyotin Singh Ashok Chakra (P) Scheme for martyrs and their families.

  • Constable Deepak Chingakham from 7 Battalion BSF was critically injured in cross-border firing in Jammu's R S Pura area on May 10 and succumbed to his injuries the next day.

  • “During the recent Indo-Pak border conflict, Constable (General Duty) Deepak Chingakham (25) of the 7th Battalion, Border Security Force (BSF) laid down his life following a drone attack launched from Pakistan at the Kharkhola Border Outpost (BOP) on May 10, 2025,” the release stated.

  • “Hailing from Imphal East district in Manipur, Constable Chimngakham was a dedicated soldier who served the nation with distinction and courage. His sacrifice has left the entire state and the country in mourning.”

  • As a mark of respect, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal, on May 13, where state dignitaries, including the Governor of Manipur, will pay tribute to the fallen hero, it added.

  • The mortal remains of Chingakham will be brought to Imphal on Tuesday by Indigo flight and the wreath laying ceremony will be held at Imphal Airport itself before being taken to his native place Yairipok Mathak Leikai in Imphal East district for the last rites.

  • Twenty-five-year-old Deepak Chingakham joined BSF as a constable in 2021. He is survived by his father, mother and one brother.
