IMPHAL — Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators from Manipur, including former chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh, left for New Delhi on Saturday to attend a meeting convened by the party’s central leadership on December 14.
The meeting holds significance as the State continues to face uncertainty over formation of a popular government after being put under President's Rule since February this year due to ethnic violence that broke out between the Meitei and the Kuki-Zo communities on May 3, 2023.
Speaking to the media before leaving Imphal for New Delhi, some MLAs expressed hope of a positive outcome from the meeting, particularly formation of a popular government, while others said the exact agenda would be clear only after reaching the national capital.
