DIMAPUR — Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Spear Corps, visited Wokha on Thursday.
During the visit, the GOC laid the foundation stone of a war memorial dedicated to the brave soldiers of the region, a defence release stated.
The ceremony was organised by the Assam Rifles and attended by Assam Rifles officials, Ex-Servicemen (ESM), civil dignitaries and residents.
The event commenced with a briefing on the proposed war memorial, highlighting its significance in honouring the sacrifices of soldiers from the region.
Later, Pendharkar unveiled the plaque marking the foundation of the war memorial, followed by a prayer ceremony. Representatives from the ESM League also addressed the gathering, recalling the valour and sacrifices of the soldiers.
