MOKOKCHUNG — A new face from a familiar political family will contest Koridang, as the BJP on Thursday named Daochier I Imchen as its candidate for the by-election—even as it announced nominees for four other constituencies across the country.
The by-polls to five Assembly seats in Goa, Karnataka, Nagaland and Tripura are scheduled for April 9.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee held on March 18, chaired by BJP national president Nitin Nabin and attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Home Minister Amit Shah, among others.
In Nagaland, the BJP has fielded Daochier I Imchen for the 28-Koridang Assembly Constituency.
He is the youngest son of the late veteran leader Imkong L Imchen, a five-time legislator and former advisor who passed away in November 2025.
Daochier, born on July 25, 1990, holds an MA in Political Science and joined the BJP in 2023.

He has previously assisted his father in political activities.
The by-election in Koridang was necessitated by the demise of Imkong L Imchen, a towering figure in Nagaland politics.
The BJP’s move to field his son is seen as an attempt to retain the family's established support and ensure continuity in the constituency.
Candidates announced for other states include Ritesh Ravi Naik (Ponda in Goa), Jahar Chakraborti (Dharmanagar in Tripura), Veerabhadrayya Charantimath (Bagalkot in Karnataka), and Srinivas T Dasakariyappa (Davanagere South in Karnataka).
The names were cleared based on recommendations of the Central Election Committee, according to a release issued by BJP national secretary Arun Singh.
Expressing gratitude, Daochier I Imchen thanked the party leadership for reposing faith in him and said that he looks forward to contesting the April 9 by-election with the support of party leaders and workers.
