Lotha Youth Hoho holds a penalty shootout tournament in Wokha on the theme ‘Shoot goal, not drugs’.
WOKHA — The Lotha Youth Hoho (LYH) organised a penalty shootout tournament on the theme "Shoot goal, not drugs" at the Public Ground in Wokha on Saturday, drawing 80 male and female teams from across the district.
S Lotha Team emerged champions of the tournament, while Restoring FC finished as runners-up. Shancho of S Lotha Team was adjudged Best Goalkeeper, and Lipio Ezung of Restoring FC was named Best Shooter.
Attending the programme as the special guest, Kilo Secretary of NSCN/GPRN Joseph Lotha stated that Wokha was among the districts seriously affected by drug abuse.
Appreciating the efforts of the LYH in combating the menace, he assured support and noted that rehabilitation facilities were available for those seeking to overcome addiction. He urged youth to channel their energies towards positive pursuits within the framework of law and order.
District Welfare Officer James Ezung, who was the theme speaker, called on participants to apply the message of the event in their daily lives, urging young people to choose positive company and use their abilities to bring meaningful change.
Wokha District Sports Association President and MSME (PCI) Chairman Yanrenthung Humtsoe underscored the importance of sports and urged participants to cultivate discipline, determination, and team spirit.
LYH President Mharhomo V Murry stated that the tournament was organised to raise awareness on the dangers of drug abuse while promoting sports as an avenue for youth engagement and healthy living.
Short speeches were also delivered by the chairman of the Lotha Hoho and the president of the Lotha Students' Union.
