WOKHA — The Lotha Hoho on Wednesday dedicated the book “Lotha – Juli Pipo-sumo Tona Oyuk-osen” (Lotha Naga Traditional Attire) at the Lotha Hoho Ki, Wokha.
The book, published by the Nagaland Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd. (NHHDC), was earlier inaugurated by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on December 1, 2025, during the Nagaland Statehood Day celebrations and the opening of the 26th edition of the Hornbill Festival.
Speaking at the programme, Mhondamo Ovung, chairman of the Lotha Hoho, lauded the efforts of the Lotha Naga Traditional Attire Committee, which undertook extensive research and documentation to bring the publication to fruition.
He acknowledged the support of the chief minister, NHHDC, and the State Documentation Committee for their assistance to the district-level core committee, including financial backing.
Ovung also expressed gratitude to village authorities, groups, and individuals for their cooperation in providing traditional materials, photographs, and information, as well as logistical support. He said the compilation of traditional attires, designs, ornaments, and motifs would serve as a valuable resource, particularly for the younger generation who may be unaware of their rich cultural heritage.

Dr. N Mhabemo Kithan, retired director of Health and Family Welfare and convenor of the district documentation committee, described the book as a “historical milestone”. He noted that with changing times, traditional practices and attire are often forgotten, and the publication would help future generations reconnect with their roots.
The dedication prayer was offered by Yentsao Ezung, assistant pastor of Wokha Town Baptist Church, while the programme was chaired by Chumbemo T Ngullie, joint secretary of the Lotha Hoho.
The book is part of a larger initiative to document the traditional attire of the indigenous tribes of Nagaland. The Lotha Hoho informed that while some tribes are yet to be finalised for publication, the Lotha tribe, along with 10 other tribes, was released on December 1, 2025.
