DIMAPUR — Journalist and poet Tiamerenla Monalisa Changkija released her third poetry collection, “This Silence”, in Dimapur on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, she mentioned that the release was overdue by over a decade, and some poems date back to the 1990s.
In her words “but we know that everything happens at its own time. While I have written the poems, this book titled ‘This Silence’ is not my work alone; therefore, I acknowledge with earnest gratitude the people who have faith in me and have put their hearts, minds and hands together to compile my scattered poems in book form.”
Published by Tajung Publications, the collection features poems by Changkija written from 1990 to 2020. She hopes readers connect with the emotions in her work, just as she did with her 2007 collection, "Monsoon Mourning".
Dr. Darlando Khathing, pro-chancellor of North East Christian University, who released the book, noted that readers often check the editorial page to gain insight into current events, thoughts, and ideas and noted that Changkija's new poem collection offers a 20-year retrospective, saving readers the trouble of sifting through decades-old newspapers.
Dr. Khathing lauded Changkija, saying 'these thoughts are not typical editorial material, but she's done it. That's what I admire about her writing'.
He said Changkija's books are part of Nagaland University's curriculum, with her poems used in MA and MPhil dissertations. He hopes "This Silence" inspires readers, encourages young writers to collect their thoughts, and share their work.
