DIMAPUR—Longterok Football Club (FC) secured their place in the Nagaland Super League (NSL) final after a thrilling extra-time victory over Nagaland United Sporting Club (NUSC) in Playoff 3 at Chümoukedima Football Stadium on March 29.
Despite relentless attacking efforts from both sides, the match remained goalless in regulation time, with passionate supporters fuelling the intensity. Longterok FC looked the more threatening team in attack, registering multiple shots on target.
The deadlock was finally broken deep into extra-time, in the 112th minute, when Kakhevi Assumi pounced on a rebound after Sangtea’s shot struck the goalpost, slotting home the winning goal.
With this crucial victory, Longterok FC marches into the NSL final, where they will face Barak FC on April 1. Interestingly, Barak FC’s only defeat in the league came at the hands of Longterok FC.
Kakhevi was awarded the Niathu Player of the Match Award for his winning goal.
