DIMAPUR — The Longleng district observed World Breastfeeding Week 2025 from August 1 to the 7th on the theme “Invest in breastfeeding, invest in the future.” The programme, organised by Longleng District Health Society (DHS), was observed across all health units in Longleng district.
An update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Longleng, stated that the week-long programme was aimed at raising awareness and promoting the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life. It added that healthcare workers across the district actively engaged in interpersonal communication (IPC) sessions during home visitations by sensitising and educating mothers on the numerous health benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for both mother and child.
The launch event on August 1 at District Hospital (DH) Longleng was attended by mothers, newborns and their families.

In her keynote address, Dr. Sanuzolu, paediatrician at DH Longleng, highlighted the critical benefits of initiating breastfeeding within one hour of birth and continuing exclusive breastfeeding for six months.
She emphasised that World Breastfeeding Week serves as a vital platform to educate, empower and support mothers in their breastfeeding journey, which is essential for the health and well-being of both mother and child.
In her welcome address, Dr. Chai-e, medical officer at DH Longleng, underscored the significance of breastfeeding as a natural and powerful practice that strengthens both individual and public health.
Report further stated that World Breastfeeding Week 2025 in Longleng concluded successfully with active participation from healthcare providers, mothers and the wider community, reinforcing the collective commitment to nurturing a healthier future through breastfeeding.
