Longleng district observes International Nurses Day

DIMAPUR — District Hospital Longleng (DHL), in collaboration with the Health Care Nursing School Longleng, celebrated International Nurses Day on Tuesday at the conference hall of the chief medical officer (CMO) on the theme “Our nurses our future: empowered nurses save lives.”
The day is observed every year on May 12 to celebrate nurses and their contribution to healthcare around the world.
Speaking on the theme, the guest of honour and senior gynecologist at DHL, Dr. Nounenuo Terhase, informed that the theme is a continuation of “Our nurses our future” campaign aimed at reshaping health policy and investing in the profession, focused on empowering nurses through better working conditions, professional development and leadership roles to strengthen healthcare systems, manage shortages and improve patient care.

Dr. Terhase has appreciated the nurses, who serve with compassion, resilience and professionalism every day and thanked them for their dedication and work. She stated that nursing is a profession with high standards and a strong sense of public service.
Explaining the tough and stressful working environment of nurses, she stated that their dedicated service forms the backbone of the healthcare system, bringing care, comfort and hope to countless lives. She further called upon the nursing community to continue their service with sincerity and diligence.
An update from CMO stated that a special prayer for the nurses was said by Asangla Imchen, women associate pastor of Ao Baptist Arogo, Longleng, while sharing on ‘My nursing journey’ was delivered by Vezhohulu Tunyi, staff nurse at DHL, and drama and dance were performed by the ANM students of HCNS.
The programme was chaired by Kikasashi Longkumer, B.sc nursing tutor at HCNS, while an invocation prayer was said by A Pongthai Phom, vaccinator at DHL.
The welcome address was delivered by Ellen Bongyang, TNAI president of Longleng unit, and concluded with vote of thanks delivered by Lily Phom, nursing in-charge at DHL.
