Girl students of GHS Yangphi sensitised on HPV vaccine

DIMAPUR — With an objective to educate students on the importance of cervical cancer prevention, an awareness programme on the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine was conducted for adolescent girls at Government High School (GHS) Yangphi in Kiphire district on May 11.
The session was led by Dr. A Amos Sangtam, medical officer of RBSK. He explained that HPV is a common viral infection that can lead to cervical cancer and other health complications among women. He emphasised that timely vaccination during adolescence provides effective protection against HPV-related diseases and plays a vital role in safeguarding the future health of young girls.

An update from the school stated that students were also informed on the safety, effectiveness and benefits of the vaccine. It was followed by an interactive session to clear misconceptions and creates awareness regarding personal hygiene, healthy lifestyle practices and preventive healthcare.
The programme concluded with an appeal to parents and guardians to support HPV vaccination for eligible adolescent girls as an important step toward a healthier future.
