DIMAPUR — The District Development Co-ordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting for Zunheboto district was held under the chairmanship of Lok Sabha MP and chairperson DISHA, S Supongmeren Jamir at the deputy commissioner’s conference hall, Zunheboto, on Thursday.

He further stressed that every effort must be made to ensure that people in the district are not left out from the benefits of these schemes.

The MP noted that while the state government is making concerted efforts to implement these programmes, he urged all heads of offices to ensure that the schemes reach the intended beneficiaries and are implemented effectively.

He added that his purpose was also to highlight the challenges faced by local communities during the implementation of various projects.

Jamir mentioned that certain crucial schemes for the district could be forwarded to the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) for prioritisation. He further stated that issues which cannot be resolved during the meeting could be addressed through close coordination with the deputy commissioner, who also serves as the member secretary, along with the concerned departments.

During the meeting, PowerPoint presentations were given by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), and Department of Social Welfare, showcasing various schemes and projects currently being implemented in the district.

Executive Engineer, PHED Zunheboto, Ichirang Zeliang, reported that the water quality in most villages of Zunheboto district is good. However, Escherichia coli (E. Coli) contamination was identified in six villages, and remedial measures have already been taken to address the issue.

Zeliang also informed that a water testing laboratory has been installed at the PHED office, Zunheboto, for continuous monitoring of water quality in the district. A report on PM POSHAN was also presented by the District Education Officer (DEO).

After the agenda items were discussed, the MP invited suggestions from DISHA members on various schemes and projects undertaken in the district to ensure their effective implementation.

The meeting was followed by an extensive discussion led by the MP, who shared his observations and remarks on the ongoing schemes and their implementation in the district.

Further, Jamir also appealed the heads of offices and councillors to plant at least one tree under their care in Zunheboto district during their stay in the district.

The meeting concluded with vote of thanks by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Zunheboto, Chumlamo Humtsoe.
