DIMAPUR — The Linguistic Minority Forum of Nagaland (LMFN) has submitted a memorandum to Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Guwahati, raising an urgent public demand for improved rail connectivity between Dimapur and Guwahati.
In the memorandum, the forum urged the introduction of a daily morning train service from Dimapur, preferably departing between 6 am and 7 am and arriving in Guwahati by 10 to 11 am.
It stated that such a schedule would greatly benefit thousands of passengers who depend on this crucial route.
The LMFN highlighted that Guwahati serves as the primary gateway to the Northeast, connecting passengers to long-distance trains, flights, healthcare, education, and business hubs.
“The absence of a convenient morning train has been causing significant inconvenience to commuters, including students, patients, office-goers, and businesspersons from Nagaland and neighbouring Manipur,” it stated.

The forum also pointed out that a similar train service had existed earlier, and its discontinuation or rescheduling has led to widespread hardship.
It appealed for the restoration of a practical morning schedule to ease travel difficulties.
The forum emphasised that Dimapur is one of the most important railway stations in the Northeast and among the highest revenue-generating stations after Guwahati.
“Given its strategic importance, it deserves to be well connected with mainland India through sufficient and convenient train services,” it stated.
Additionally, the memorandum called for the reintroduction of the Brahmaputra Mail (Train No. 14055) via Dimapur, which previously served as a vital rail link for the region.
The forum further proposed the introduction of a dedicated daily commuter train service between Dimapur and Guwahati to cater specifically to office-going passengers, thereby improving regional mobility and strengthening economic and social integration in the Northeast.
The LMFN expressed optimism that the Northeast Frontier Railway authorities will give due consideration to the genuine public demand and take necessary action in the interest of the people of Nagaland and adjoining areas.
