DIMAPUR — The Department of Legal Metrology, in collaboration with the Consumer Rights Organisation, Wokha, organised consumer awareness programmes at Mount Sinai School and Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Wokha, on Thursday.
According to a DIPR report, Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, Wokha, T Aimong addressed the students on the theme "Accurate measurement, safety product, and confident consumer".
He highlighted the importance of consumer awareness in daily necessities and explained the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) 2019, including the six basic rights of consumers.
He stressed the need for accuracy in standard measurements, weights, pricing, and packaging to ensure consumers receive exact quantities. He also cautioned that faulty medical equipment and measurement can compromise health, highlighting the importance of vigilance in the medical field.
On safety products, he urged students to check ingredients, expiry dates, and FSSAI marks to avoid compromised goods.

Speaking on the concept of the "Confident consumer", Aimong encouraged shifting mindsets towards seeking justice, being informed, and exercising the right to redressal. He motivated students to become careful, well-informed, and aware citizens in their daily lives, thereby creating a positive impact in society.
The programme concluded with a question hour, where students and teachers clarified their doubts.
