WOKHA — The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) on Thursday apprehended six individuals in Wokha town for failing to possess Inner Line Permits (ILP).
According to the union, three of the apprehended individuals were working as salespersons in Wokha town, while another three were travelling salespersons engaged in selling tobacco products.
The latter reportedly entered Mokokchung district and later Wokha district without ILP and without authorisation to sell such items.
Speaking to media persons, LSU president S Zubenthung Ngullie stressed the need to strengthen the ILP system in Nagaland.
He questioned why outsiders should be allowed to enter the state without ILP and later apply for the permit, instead of obtaining it beforehand as is enforced in other states.

Ngullie appealed to the government to ensure strict implementation of ILP regulations, including monitoring the exit of permit holders within the timeframe permitted.
The union further warned that outsiders entering Wokha district without ILP would face strict action, including deportation to the nearest state border.
It reminded that online systems are already in place to facilitate ILP applications and urged compliance.
Ngullie informed that three individuals found selling tobacco products without ILP were handed over to the district administration along with their seized items.
The other three, who were working as salespersons in Wokha town, were directed to obtain the required documents within two days, failing which they would have to leave the district.
He added that the LSU would submit a representation letter to the deputy commissioner on Friday, May 22, highlighting its findings and grievances, and appealing for stronger enforcement of ILP regulations and stricter monitoring at check gates in the district.
Meanwhile, LSU vice president N Chipenthung Kikon and general secretary Nyanthung M Khuvung cautioned business establishments situated within 100 metres of educational institutions against selling tobacco-related products, warning that legal action would be taken against violators.
