DIMAPUR —In a one-sided encounter at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium on Monday,
Dimapur cruised to a convincing 9-wicket victory over Peren in the 5th Late G
Rio Men’s U19 Tournament 2025.
With a disciplined bowling attack and a composed batting
display, Dimapur began their campaign with an emphatic win, the Nagaland
Cricket Association (NCA) stated in an update.
After being put in to bat, Peren struggled to find momentum
against Dimapur’s sharp bowling attack. The batting line-up collapsed under
pressure, managing only 33 runs in 14.5 overs. Anurag Gupta was the highest
scorer with 9 runs off 10 balls. The rest of the batting order failed to reach
double digits.
Dimapur’s Deepak Thakur was the standout bowler, taking 4
wickets for just 16 runs in a tightly controlled 7-over spell. His performance
set the tone early, with crucial breakthroughs that left Peren reeling. He was
well supported by the rest of the bowling unit who maintained tight lines and
ensured no easy runs.
Chasing a modest target of 34, Dimapur made light work of
the run chase. Openers laid the foundation, and despite the loss of one early
wicket, the result was never in doubt. Arnab led the batting with an unbeaten
14 off 21 balls, guiding Dimapur home in just 8.1 overs.
Deepak Thakur was adjudged Player of the Match for his
match-defining spell that restricted Peren to a below-par total.
Earlier, Niuland defeated Tseminyu by 7 wickets in their
opening fixture of the 5th Late G Rio Men’s U19 Tournament 2025, held at the
Sovima Cricket Ground.
With a brilliant bowling display followed by a confident
chase, Niuland stamped their authority early in the competition.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Tseminyu
showed early promise with a steady partnership between Rohit Uddin and Sonyelo
Kent. Rohit remained unbeaten with a well-fought 43 off 63 balls, while Kent
contributed 30 from 65. However, the rest of the batting lineup collapsed under
immense pressure from Niuland’s bowling attack.
Sujit Kumar delivered a sensational spell, taking 7 wickets
for just 11 runs in 6 overs - one of the standout performances of the
tournament so far. He was ably supported by Jeetender, who chipped in with 2
wickets.
Chasing 114 for victory, Niuland batted with composure and
control. Jeetender played a key role with the bat, scoring 37 off 33 balls to
anchor the chase. Despite losing three wickets, the batting unit never looked
under pressure, reaching the target comfortably in 19.3 overs.
Sujit Kumar was named Player of the Match for his
match-winning 7-wicket haul that paved the way for Niuland’s comfortable win.
