The Late A Oditenba Phom Memorial Badminton Trophy concluded in Yachem after three days of matches, honouring the former MLA and promoting sports unity.

DIMAPUR — The first edition of the Late A Oditenba Phom Memorial Badminton Trophy 2026 concluded on Thursday at the Indoor Badminton Hall in Yachem, following three days of competition from January 20 to the 22nd.
The tournament was organised by the Yachem Students’ Union (YSU) and the Organising Committee in memory of A Oditenba Phom, former MLA.
Gracing the closing ceremony as the special guest, S Yanger Angh, proprietor of Shamakok Constructions, urged young athletes and the student community to make use of the badminton hall, expressing hope that it would produce athletes capable of representing the district, the state and the country in the future.
He said sports should promote unity among neighbouring villages and encouraged people to live in harmony for collective development and participation on all fronts.

Remembering A Oditenba Phom as a true son of the soil and a dedicated leader of the Phom people, Angh said his public service was laudable. He thanked the sponsor’s family and the Yachem Students’ Union for organising the tournament in recognition of his contributions.
According to an update, in the men’s singles category, B Metom emerged winner, while Themmei Phom finished runner-up. In the women’s singles, N Moiden won the title, with L Pongingangla as runner-up.
In the men’s doubles (veteran) category, the pair of P Hamlen and N Ngamba took the title, defeating Yingyulenba and Baüken. The men’s doubles title was won by Haulom Phom and B Metom, with Nokchem L and Themmei Phom finishing runner-up.
