The inaugural Late A Oditenba Phom Memorial Badminton Trophy kicks off in Yachem, honouring the first Phom MLA’s legacy and promoting sportsmanship.

DIMAPUR — The first edition of the Late A Oditenba Phom Memorial Badminton Trophy began at the Indoor Badminton Hall, Yachem, Longleng, on Tuesday.
Attending the inaugural session as special guest, Atu Imsong, project director, DRDA, Longleng, highlighted the importance of sportsmanship and called upon the village elders and student community to adopt the spirit of love and oneness to strive together on all fronts.

Also, he urged the participants to say no to hatred and jealousy for a better tomorrow, mentioning that coordination and understanding among peer groups and leaders is the key to success. He was accompanied by a host of officers and staff from DRDA, Longleng.
This event is being organised by the Yachem Students’ Union in collaboration with the family of Late A Oditenba Phom to honour the legacy of the leader. This trophy will be the first of its kind in the district.
Late A Oditenba Phom was born on April 8, 1931, at Yachem village to Late Chiong Atong and Late Hamyong. He was married to C Akokla Phom of Yaongyimchen village in 1965. He breathed his last on July 17, 2017.
He was selected as a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) in 1969, becoming the first MLA among the Phom tribe.
