DIMAPUR — In wake of the ongoing eviction drive against illegal immigrants in Assam, the Langpangkong Students’ Conference (LKM) has adopted a firm and proactive stance to safeguard its jurisdiction's integrity and security.
On July 25, the LKM representatives held a consultative meeting with the additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Tuli.
During the meeting, the LKM members urged the district administration to ensure that no illegal immigrants or outsiders without valid Inner Line Permit (ILP) documentation are allowed entry into Langpangkong jurisdiction.
It also appealed for the deployment of additional security personnel in vulnerable border areas beyond the Watiyongpang check gate to strengthen surveillance and prevent unauthorised movement.

Following the meeting, the LKM members visited the Watiyongpang check gate and interacted with on-duty police personnel. They emphasised the need for stringent ILP verification protocols and reiterated that individuals without proper documentation must not be allowed to cross into Langpangkong region.
The student body made it clear that it is taking the matter with utmost seriousness and will not tolerate any lapse that could lead to the infiltration of undocumented individuals.
Any confirmed cases of illegal entry will be reported and dealt with strictly in collaboration with the competent authorities, it affirmed.
“The LKM Office is closely monitoring the situation and will take prompt action in case of any breach. We remain committed to supporting the administration and law enforcement in safeguarding our land and people. However, if any official dereliction of duty is found, we will not remain silent,” it warned.
Further, the LKM also issued a public advisory, urging all residents under Langpangkong jurisdiction to refrain from sheltering or allowing entry to any outsider lacking valid ILP.
The LKM has instructed its affiliated units to stay alert and urged village councils, town ward unions, and the public to cooperate and remain vigilant.
LTSU sounds alert on illegal immigrants
The Longleng Town Students' Union (LTSU) has raised concerns about potential entry of illegal immigrants into the state, citing risks to the region's security, social harmony, and demographic balance, particularly Longleng town.
In a press release, the student union called upon all citizens of Longleng town to be vigilant and verify the identity of unfamiliar individuals in their locality to prevent potential security threats.
It also urged citizens to conduct regular patrols and surveillance in key areas and report suspicious activities to the LTSU or authorities.
The LTSU further urged citizens to cooperate with neighbouring wards and law enforcement, while avoiding unlawful activities like harassment or violence against suspected immigrants, and instead letting authorities handle the issue.
“Let this serve as a precautionary but serious directive in the larger interest of protecting our people and upholding the integrity of Longleng town,” the union added.
