KVK Wokha conducts an agripreneurship development training programme for women to promote sustainable livelihoods.
WOKHA — A training programme on "Agripreneurship development through agri and allied activities" was conducted at Lotha Eloe Hoho Ki in Wokha on Tuesday, with women from various colonies of Wokha town participating in the event.
The programme was organised by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Wokha, under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), in collaboration with the Lotha Eloe Hoho, with the objective of promoting agripreneurship and creating sustainable income-generating opportunities through agriculture and allied sectors.
During the programme, Chief Technical Officer (Horticulture) Megokhono Meyase delivered a session on post-harvest management of fruits and vegetables. She highlighted the importance of proper handling practices after harvest to preserve quality, freshness, nutritional value, and marketability while minimising post-harvest losses.
Meyase noted that fruits and vegetables are highly perishable and can deteriorate rapidly because of improper handling, mechanical damage, and microbial infections.

Effective post-harvest management, she said, helps reduce both qualitative and quantitative losses, ensures food safety and quality, extends shelf life, and enhances farmers' income.
She further pointed out that surplus and highly perishable produce can be processed into value-added products such as jams, jellies, and pickles, thereby creating additional income avenues for farmers.
As part of the programme, Subject Matter Specialist (Home Science) Deepa Singh conducted a front-line demonstration on "Popularisation of papaya tutti frutti as a value-added product for income generation". The demonstration showcased the processing of papaya into a value-added product and underscored its potential as an additional source of livelihood.
