DIMAPUR — A field day on the linseed variety Priyam was organised by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dimapur at Sunito village on Wednesday, with the participation of 21 farmers.
The programme was conducted to demonstrate improved linseed cultivation practices and to create awareness about the performance of the linseed variety Priyam under local conditions, stated a press release.
Priyam is an improved linseed variety known for its good yield potential and adaptability under different agro-climatic conditions. The variety is reported to produce a higher number of capsules per plant and more seeds per capsule, which contributes to better productivity.
Studies have also shown that Priyam performs well in hill and northeastern regions and can give a higher seed yield compared to several other varieties.
Dr. Moanaro, Technical Officer, KVK Dimapur, highlighted the importance of introducing improved varieties and scientific crop management practices to enhance the income of farmers.

Dr. Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist-cum-Head, KVK Dimapur, delivered a short speech highlighting the role and activities of KVK in technology dissemination, capacity building, and supporting farmers with improved agricultural technologies. She encouraged farmers to actively participate in KVK programmes and adopt improved varieties and scientific practices.
Dr. Bendangla Imsong, Chief Technical Officer, KVK Dimapur, spoke on the importance of linseed cultivation and explained various post-harvest technologies. She stressed proper harvesting time, drying, and storage practices to reduce post-harvest losses and maintain seed quality.
