DIMAPUR — Kumloi K Honghahu secured the second rank in the Arts stream in the recently conducted Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) with 96.60%, scoring 483 marks.
A student of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, Kumloi lost her mother in 2018, followed by the deaths of her grandfather in 2019 and her father in 2020.
According to Kumloi, the losses affected both her studies and mental well-being. “There were times I couldn’t open my book because of the emptiness and stress of being alone,” she said.
She currently lives with her grandmother, aunt, and brother. Kumloi said her family supported her education and provided study materials and other necessities.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, Kumloi said she attended classes regularly and focused on listening carefully to teachers during lectures. She relied mainly on textbooks and research while preparing for examinations.

She also acknowledged the support of teachers from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School and St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, where she completed her HSLC.
Kumloi said her faith helped her remain hopeful during difficult times. She cited Proverbs 3:5-6 as a source of encouragement.
Speaking about the examination results, Kumloi said she was uncertain about her performance before the results were declared. She later received a call from her teacher informing her that she had secured the second rank.
Addressing younger students, Kumloi said, “Every child is unique with different potentials in different fields. Comparing one kid with another is not the best approach.” She also encouraged students to “keep God and prayers above everything".
