Advisor Kudecho Khamo urged Gaon Buras to uphold their roles with integrity and courage during the Chokri Area GB's Union general meeting in Phek.

KOHIMA — Advisor for Civil Administration Works Division and Taxes Kudecho Khamo called upon the gaon buras (GBs) to uphold their office with integrity, courage, and dignity while safeguarding the values, traditions, and welfare of the society on Monday.
He was addressing the general meeting of the Chokri Area GB's Union held at CAPO Hall in Rihuba under the Phek district.
Khamo highlighted the evolution of village administration, wherein the GBs have assumed a role with dignity, carrying huge respect and responsibility. He stated that the red coat distinguishes a person from others, symbolising command over society and day-to-day affairs with dignity and responsibility.
Stating that GBs are guardians, security, and blessings for the clan, khel, and society, he urged them to uphold their office with integrity. He added that their role is a lifelong one, and they should be a blessing for others.
Khamo stressed the need to respect and honour the GBs as custodians of values and traditions, whose role is vital for the progress of society.
He shared his vision for the development of the Chokri area, asserting the need to bring it on par with the rest of the state, and sought cooperation and unity from the people to further leverage development.
Expressing concern over the polarisation of Naga society, he called for the need to remain grounded in rich traditions and heritage. He urged the GBs to examine and retrospect on the condition of society to chart a positive path.

He stated that money is not the solution to everything and urged the people to remain rational in socio-political matters while upholding the Christian faith with honesty, courage, and integrity.
Khamo also stated that Article 371(A), enshrined in the Constitution of India, which gives special protection and privileges to Nagaland, should be upheld and strengthened for the interest and welfare of the Naga people.
Acknowledging the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who is also the President of the Naga People's Front, he said the government is working for the welfare of the people and that the state's financial condition is also improving. In this regard, he called for public support to work with the government in channelling development and investments into the region for stability, peace, and development.
Vepozoyi Theyo, President of the Chokri Area Public Organisation, stated in his speech that GBs are entrusted with lifelong responsibilities and urged them to care for and protect public properties.
He exhorted the members to uphold justice with integrity and not be unfair to anyone irrespective of personal status or affiliation. He also stressed the need for elderly leadership in upholding the role and responsibilities of the GBs.
Hünietsü Vero, Head Gaon Bura of Pfutsero Town, stated in his speech that the institution of GBs is a prestige passed down since the colonial era,
which has commanded respect in Naga society ever since. He called for unity in public affairs while urging members to adorn their uniform with pride.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Resamu Rhakho, Chairman of the Chokri Area GB's Union, who stated that the union has worked for the unity of the people and acknowledged the cooperation extended by the members.
