kvk Peren organisies training on turmeric and pineapple cultivation

  • DIMAPUR — The ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Peren, successfully organised a two-day ‘Training on turmeric and pineapple cultivation-cum-field visit under FRO" in Mhainamtsi village on April 8 and 9.

  • An update from KVK Peren stated that the event brought together farmers of the Jalukie block, FPO Jalukie chairman, CEO and members to discuss challenges and innovative practices in turmeric and pineapple cultivation.

  • Z James Kikon, CTO (Soil Science), in his welcome address, highlighted the activities and crucial role of FPO in empowering small and marginal farmers. He advised farmers to adopt sustainable cultivation practices and discussed processing and value addition of turmeric and pineapple.

  • Dr. KL Meena, principal scientist and head of KVK Peren, commended the Jalukie farmers' efforts in commercial cultivation of turmeric and pineapple. He also encouraged the farmers to adopt innovative technologies to increase the yield per unit area.

  • Dr. Prashant Kalal, SMS (Fruit Science), addressed the challenges and problems in turmeric and pineapple cultivation. He spoke about the improved package of practices of crop cultivation. He also emphasised year-round pineapple production by adopting different planting times with judicious application of plant growth regulators to enhance revenue.

  • Dr. Akshay Ujjwal, SMS (Agronomy), spoke about the various weed management approaches in pineapple and turmeric crops using available resources.

  • It stated that vegetable seeds including French bean, yard-long bean and bhendi were distributed to 59 participants of the Jalukie block.

  • The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Rokozeno Chalieu, FPO project manager.
