- DIMAPUR — The
ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Peren, successfully organised a two-day
farmers-scientist interaction-cum-field visit for turmeric and king chilli
farmers in Poilwa village on May 22 and 23.
- An update from KVK Peren stated that the event brought
together farmers from Old Poilwa and New Poilwa, CEO of Peren food producer
organisation (FPO) and members to discuss challenges and innovative practices
in king chilli, turmeric, and citrus cultivation.
- It stated that Bangswa Hanky, CEO of Peren block FPO,
delivered the welcome speech and highlighted the role of FPO in Peren district,
while Dr. Patu K Zeliang, ACTO-GPB at KVK Peren, spoke about the necessary
activities and precautions for reducing crop loss in the kharif season. She
provided information about the innovative crop cultivation practices for
enhancing yield per unit area.

- Dr. Prashant Kalal, SMS-Fruit Science at KVK Peren,
addressed the challenges and problems in king chilli, turmeric and citrus
fruits cultivation through a presentation. He urged the Poilwa farmers to adopt
different cultural, mechanical and biological methods for the management of
insect-pest and viral diseases in kibng chillie, turmeric and citrus fruits
(orange, lemon) cultivation.
- He also explained about seed treatment and enriching farm
yard manure with Trichoderma viridae for reducing the infestation of insect
pests and pathogens. He further advised the farmers to paint citrus tree stems
with bordeaux paste as a prophylactic measure.
- Report stated that the farmers and subject matter
specialists (SMS) visited king chilli and orange farms, followed by a
discussion on the management of chilli and orange pests and diseases.
- It stated that neem oil, yellow sticky pads and vegetable
seeds were distributed to 40 participants of the Peren block farmers.
