DIMAPUR — Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dimapur conducted the 8th Rashtriyan Poshan Maah (national nutrition month) programme in Medziphema town on September 29.


An update from KVK Dimapur stated that the main aim of the programme was to create awareness on balanced diet to address obesity through reducing consumption of salt, sugar and oil.


On the occasion, Dr. Chingakham Sima Chanu, SMS (Home Science) at KVK Dimapur, gave awareness on the importance of balanced diet, harmful effect on excess consumption of salt, sugar and oil in daily diet. She also highlighted the merits and demerits of local cuisines and the influence of ultra-processed foods in changing food habits that could ultimately leads to many non-communicable diseases such as high blood pressure, increase incidence of obesity and diabetes, cancer, hormonal imbalance especially PCOD in the women.

Dr. Moanaro, technical officer at KVK Dimapur, also addressed the issues of obesity in the state.


It was followed by Poshan Thali competition based on the Angami traditional cuisines. A total of 24 women from Medziphema town participated in the event.
