Konyak Union and ATASU reaffirmed historical ties and resolved to address border issues through dialogue while calling for scientific disaster management in Nagaland and Assam.
DIMAPUR — The Konyak Union (KU) and the All Tai Ahom Students' Union (ATASU) held a joint meeting at Sivasagar, Assam, on August 22 to deliberate on the longstanding relationship between the Konyak and Tai Ahom communities and discuss prevailing social, economic, environmental and other issues concerning the two communities.
According to a press release issued by the KU, the meeting reaffirmed the historical, cultural and fraternal ties shared by the Konyak and Tai Ahom communities and emphasised the importance of mutual respect, understanding and peaceful coexistence.
The meeting unanimously resolved that any border-related matter or other issues concerning the two communities would be addressed through mutual dialogue between the Tai Ahom and Konyak unions, without the involvement of any third-party organisation.
The house also expressed serious concern over recent natural calamities, including landslides and floods in Mon district of Nagaland and parts of Assam.
It appealed to the governments of Nagaland and Assam to undertake proper scientific and technical assessments to identify the causes and contributing factors behind such calamities.

The meeting stressed the need for preventive measures, scientific planning and long-term environmental management to minimise the risk of similar disasters in the future.
Recognising the importance of maintaining peace and preventing misunderstandings and untoward incidents, the meeting further resolved to constitute a peace committee comprising representatives of the concerned organisations.
The committee will maintain communication between the communities, promote mutual understanding and facilitate the peaceful resolution of any issues that may arise.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the ATASU Sivasagar District Committee, ATASU Charaideo District Committee, ATASU Sivasagar Women’s Council, ATASU Charaideo Women’s Council, Konyak Union Headquarters Mon, Konyak Students’ Union Headquarters Mon and Konyak Mother Association Headquarters Mon.
The Konyak Union and ATASU reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the bonds of friendship, brotherhood and mutual respect between the Konyak and Tai Ahom communities and to working together towards peace, harmony and sustainable development in the region.
