DIMAPUR — Citing long-standing deprivation of the community in state services, the Konyak Union (KU) has reaffirmed its demand for implementation of Nagaland’s job reservation policy based on population ratio.
In a memorandum addressed to the chief minister, the KU recalled an earlier representation submitted on September 30, 2020, which included what it described as “critical justifications” on how Konyaks are being deprived “in all fronts.”
The union stated that negligence and lack of corrective measures had cost the Konyaks dearly despite being one of the most populous and backward tribes in Nagaland.

“Considering the need to pursue the matter, the Konyak Union in its 45th general session has endorsed and support the Konyak Students' Union's initiative for the job reservation policy to be reviewed as per the population ratio which is a paramount and legitimate right of the Konyak. Therefore, the Konyak Students' Union pursuance for Job Reservation Policy may kindly be considered,” the representation read.
The KU stated that the initiative was a people’s demand and required political will to be addressed through legislation in the Cabinet to reform and reshape the unfair system of job reservation in the state.
