DIMAPUR — The Konyak Union (KU) on Monday issued directives to all armed factions in Mon district, asking them to desist from parading in uniforms or carrying arms within the district.

“Under no circumstances shall any faction make forceful demands, abduct persons, or engage in threats or intimidation,” the union stated in a press release issued on Monday.

The directives were passed following an emergency meeting of KU presidents and executive members from various units.

The union warned that any faction failing to comply would face a declaration of non-cooperation. “In such an event the Konyak Union will organise and mobilise Konyak youth to deploy to designated locations to confront and neutralise violations,” it stated.

The emergency meeting was convened after a KU official was briefly taken hostage by the NSCN-K (Yung Aung) faction operating across the Myanmar border.

The official was released following intervention by the KU Phomching unit, Konyak Union Myanmar, Longwa village council, and village leaders from Khanmoi and Gozu in Myanmar. The KU acknowledged the NSCN-K (YA) faction for cooperating in the release.
