Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome inaugurates North Block Council Hall under the Kohima Smart City Project, urging civic responsibility.

KOHIMA — Advisor for School Education, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, on Saturday inaugurated the North Block Council Hall, constructed under the Kohima Smart City Project.
North Block (Ward 3) comprises four colonies—Kezieke, Pezielietsie, Kenouzou and Mission Compound. Kohima city has 48 colonies grouped into 19 wards.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Yhome stressed the need for greater investment in urban infrastructure and development, considering the growing population in urban areas.
He highlighted key challenges facing Kohima, including inadequate drainage, waste management and water scarcity.
He urged colony leaders to identify areas requiring improvement and work collectively to address the issues. Emphasising the role of citizens in city development, the advisor said the character and beauty of a city depend on the collective responsibility of its residents.
He expressed hope that society is moving towards a future where young people are more conscious of responsible living.

North Block III councillor Ruokuovolie Rutsa appealed to residents to respect and maintain the facility, noting that it would serve as a venue for discussions and decision-making concerning the welfare of the ward.
Rutsa also encouraged residents to work together in ensuring the ward keeps pace with other colonies in terms of development. Highlighting waste management as one of Kohima's major concerns, he urged citizens to practise proper waste segregation.
Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Council chairman Thejao Sekhose described North Block as one of Kohima's oldest colonies, now designated as a ward.
He said the area held historical significance during the British era, when horses were reportedly reared in the area. He also noted that one of the oldest government high schools in Kohima district was established in the colony during the British period.
With the completion of the North Block Council Hall, a total of seven ward council and panchayat halls have been constructed under the Kohima Smart City Project.
The completed facilities are located in Daklane, Midland, New Market, Kitsubozou, D-Block, North Block and Naga Bazaar.
