KOHIMA — Advisor for School Education Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome inaugurated a futsal court at D Khel Ground in Kohima village and distributed agricultural machinery to farmers on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Yhome stated that the government allocates substantial funds to constituencies under the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) and the Iconic Project. He noted that each constituency currently receives INR 2.20 crore under the schemes and stressed the importance of ensuring that the funds are utilised effectively to meet local needs.
He said development projects in the 10th Northern Angami Assembly Constituency are undertaken following consultations between party leaders, local leaders, and the community to identify priority areas and ensure that resources are directed towards projects that benefit the people.
Referring to the inaugurated futsal court, Dr. Yhome said the facility was constructed in response to a request from the D Khel Council. He expressed hope that it would help identify and train talented players, provide opportunities for youth development, and promote physical fitness among residents.
The MLA said the facility would be handed over to the D Khel Council and urged the community to maintain it properly. He also encouraged the council to generate revenue through its use for the benefit of the locality.

Highlighting the importance of agriculture, Dr. Yhome noted that many families had gradually moved away from farming activities. He expressed hope that the distribution of agricultural machinery would encourage people to return to cultivation while promoting productive engagement and healthier lifestyles.
He also encouraged government employees and other members of the community to invest in farming activities, even if they are unable to personally engage in agricultural work on a regular basis. Such efforts, he said, could create livelihood opportunities, ensure productive use of land, and contribute to local economic growth. He further advocated equal wages for both men and women engaged in agricultural work.
Dr. Yhome also drew attention to changing food habits, observing that the shift from traditional foods to fast food could have adverse health implications in the long term.
Chairman of D Khel Council, Keneizezo Yiese, thanked Dr. Yhome for initiating the project and described the futsal court as an important facility for training and empowering young people. He said that although the facility is located within D Khel, it is intended to serve the wider interests of Kohima Village and the Angami community.
Yiese also appreciated the MLA for adopting the village under development initiatives and for supporting the community through the distribution of agricultural machinery, which he said would benefit residents.
President of the Farmers Wing of the 10th Northern Angami Assembly Constituency, Neilakuolie Yiese, said D Khel possesses a considerable area of paddy fields, many of which have become fallow as people gradually discontinued farming. He expressed hope that the distribution of machinery would encourage farmers and landowners to resume cultivation.
He informed that four 9 HP power tillers, three 7 HP power tillers, three brush cutters, three paddy threshers, and one water pump were distributed to beneficiaries during the programme.
