Kohima DPDB reviewed electoral roll revision while Mon DPDB approved key school and road proposals.

DIMAPUR — The monthly meetings of the District Planning and Development Boards (DPDB) of Kohima and Mon districts were held at their respective district headquarters on Tuesday.
Kohima: The meeting was held at the DPDB Hall, Kohima, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and vice-chairman of DPDB Kohima, B Henok Buchem.
According to a DIPR report, ADC Kohima Ruopfûkuotuo Noudi reviewed the previous DPDB meeting and presented details on the upcoming blood donation campaign initiated by DPDB Kohima.
Assistant Electoral Officer (AEO) Kohima Chisho presented the process and timeline of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll during the meeting.
He informed that Kohima district has 189 polling stations across six assembly constituencies, including three newly recognised polling stations added last year.

Stressing the need for the SIR exercise, Chisho said it was necessitated due to rapid urbanisation, migration, multiple entries in electoral rolls, and concerns regarding the quality of electoral rolls.
He stated that the qualifying date for the revision is October 1, 2026, and house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be conducted from August 6 to September 14.
The draft electoral roll will be published on September 28, while the final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on November 22.
Chisho also clarified that Aadhaar would only be accepted as proof of identity and not as proof of citizenship, address, or date of birth.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Kohima, Krodi Rhetso, highlighted the law and order situation in the district during the meeting.
He stated that Kohima, being the state capital, faces unique security challenges due to the presence of various criminal elements. Rhetso informed that police recently arrested several anti-social elements and are closely monitoring illegal activities, including reports of illegal taxation in Kohima town.
On the Manipur situation, the senior superintendent of police informed that many heavy vehicles remain stranded along National Highway-2 and said police personnel have been deployed to ensure the safety of stranded drivers.
He also appealed to the public and media to refrain from spreading provocative messages on social media that could disturb peace and harmony in the district.
The board also recommended Widows Nouzhie Society, Hospital Colony, Kohima, for society registration.
On the issue of water supply to the 10th NAP (IR) headquarters at Zhadima, EE PHED Sedevilie Suohu informed that the provision under JJM-I has already been saturated. However, he said the proposal could be recommended to the Centre for inclusion under JJM-II for water connectivity.
DEO Kohima Emilo Patton presented a report on the introduction of the Arts stream at GHSS Kigwema and the Science stream at GHSS Jotsoma.
Both schools were found to have fulfilled the required criteria, and the board decided to recommend the introduction of the respective streams.
The board also felicitated Visezono Vakha for her performance in the HSLC Examination 2026. Vakha, a student of Rüzhükhrie GHSS, secured the highest aggregate score of 92.1 per cent among all government high schools in Kohima district.

Mon: Deputy Commissioner and vice chairman of the DPDB Mon, Wennyei Konyak, presided over the meeting held at the DC’s conference hall.
The board reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting and recommended the creation of a Government Primary School (GPS) at Longwa Lailo village, a proposal submitted by Advisor for Treasuries & Accounts, Art and Culture, K Konngam Konyak.
The board also recommended the re-approval of an elementary school at Chingai Ward, Mon town, after verification reports were presented by the District Education Officer.
During the meeting, MLA C Manpon Konyak proposed the inclusion of a new road under the Urban Road scheme at Aboi town. After deliberation, the house decided to recommend the proposal to the government for consideration.
The board further recommended the proposal for the change of nomenclature from Shangnyu village and Shangnyu EAC headquarters to Sangnu village and Sangnu EAC headquarters.
The proposal for provisional recognition of Class VIII at St. Paul School, Angjangyang, was also forwarded to the higher authorities for approval after discussion by the board.
Meanwhile, the Department of Horticulture gave a PowerPoint presentation on its departmental activities. The DC also reminded members about the upcoming observance of World Environment Day and urged all concerned to mark the occasion with purpose and commitment.
