Kohima DPDB backs Jakhama Town Council proposal, while Phek DPDB reviews poor government school results and key development issues.

DIMAPUR — The monthly meeting of the Kohima District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) was held at the DPDB conference hall on June 18 under the chairmanship of MLA and outgoing DPDB chairman Kevipodi Sophie.

According to a DIPR report, Advisor for School Education and incoming DPDB chairman Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome and Deputy Commissioner of Kohima B Henok Buchem attended the meeting.
In his address, Sophie thanked the board members for their support and cooperation during his tenure and expressed gratitude to the state government for entrusting him with the responsibility of chairing the Kohima DPDB during 2025–26.
The deputy commissioner acknowledged Sophie's contributions, noting that several achievements were made under his leadership, including the successful organisation of the Dr. T Ao Trophy tournament.
Congratulating the outgoing chairman on completing a successful tenure, Dr. Yhome said the rotation of DPDB chairmen was in accordance with government policy.
He urged all departments to remain well acquainted with their responsibilities and ensure that information on departmental activities is made accessible to the public.
The advisor also observed that improvements may be needed in the implementation of the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) schemes and the Village Adoption Committee concept to enhance their effectiveness.

To help members better understand ground realities, he proposed holding future DPDB meetings in different constituencies, with meeting dates fixed in advance to encourage wider participation.
During the meeting, the board deliberated on a proposal to upgrade Jakhama headquarters into the Jakhama Town Council.
SDO (Civil), Jakhama, Vineikho Tetso, briefed the members on the proposal, stating that the administrative circle was established in 1960 as an Area Superintendent Office, predating Nagaland's statehood.
Following deliberations, the board agreed to recommend the proposal to the state government for further consideration.
The board also recommended the upgrade of Vision Hill School, Kohima, from Class VII to Class VIII and decided to forward the proposal to the concerned department for necessary action.
ADC Kohima Ruopfukuotuo Noudi presented a report on the observance of World Blood Donor Day 2026 and the blood donation camp held on June 12 at the Capital Convention Centre.
Organised by the Kohima DPDB in collaboration with the Voluntary Blood Donors Association Nagaland (VBDAN), the programme was attended by Governor Nand Kishore Yadav.
More than 50 individuals, including the Deputy Commissioner, donated blood during the camp, the report stated.
Phek DPDB reviews poor school results

The monthly meeting of Phek DPDB was held at the deputy commissioner's conference hall on June 19 under the chairmanship of Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs and DPDB chairman, KG Kenye.
A major agenda of the meeting was the poor performance of government schools in the HSLC and HSSLC examinations, which was discussed at length by the board, a DIPR report stated.
Addressing the meeting, Kenye highlighted the importance of district planning and development boards in ensuring effective governance at the grassroots level.
He encouraged departmental officers to attend official meetings regularly and actively participate in discussions so that the government can better understand and address the needs of the people.
Sharing the state's financial position, the minister urged officers of developmental departments to ensure that funds earmarked for development programmes and beneficiaries are utilised judiciously for the welfare of the people.
The senior sub-divisional education officer (SDEO), Phek, presented the factors contributing to the poor performance of government schools in the HSLC and HSSLC examinations.
Following the presentation, the board deliberated on measures to improve academic outcomes, including a proposal for DPDB members to adopt government schools.
The board also discussed the proposal for installation of a video conferencing facility in the deputy commissioner's conference hall and recommended it to the government for final approval.
Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer, Rhosietho Nguori, along with EAC and Census Nodal Officer, Mechietsho Koza, briefed the members on various aspects of Census operations.
The meeting further reviewed the ongoing preparations and activities for Census 2027 in the district.
The status of the Pfutsero–Phek Road, which is in the process of being handed over from the NHIDCL to the State Roads and Bridges (R&B) department, also came up for discussion.
Executive engineers of the R&B divisions at Pfutsero and Phek updated the board on the current status of the handover process.
Kenye informed the meeting that he would take up the matter with the state government to secure funds for the current maintenance of the Pfutsero–Phek Road.
The departments of Social Welfare and Women Development, and Food and Civil Supplies also made PowerPoint presentations highlighting their departmental activities and initiatives undertaken in the district.
