DIMAPUR — The Kohima District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) launched a two-day Special Aadhaar Registration Drive under SAATHI at the District Court Complex, Kohima, on Tuesday.

The drive was inaugurated by Neiko Akami, member-secretary of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority, according to a DIPR report.

In his inaugural speech, Akami highlighted the SAATHI campaign (identity and dignity), an initiative of the National Legal Services Authority. He stated that the campaign, launched in 2025, aims to provide legal identities such as Aadhaar cards to destitute children and connect them with education, healthcare, and welfare schemes, thereby restoring their dignity.

He urged the Kohima DLSA to extend the coverage to Tseminyu as well, enabling vulnerable persons to benefit free of cost. He added that the special drive was initiated for public welfare, recalling the overwhelming public response for Aadhaar registration during the mega legal camp held by the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority in April 2025.

Addressing the gathering, B Henok Buchem, deputy commissioner of Kohima, underscored the importance of Aadhaar in availing government benefits, including the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS).

He urged attendees to take advantage of the registration drive and encouraged the Kohima DLSA to conduct legal awareness programmes to inform people of their rights and also to highlight their duties and responsibilities as citizens.

Around 220 beneficiaries availed themselves of the services on the first day.
