DIMAPUR — The Kiphire District Congress Committee (DCC) has extended unwavering support to Tsumongthong Yim, who has taken a bold stand against alleged corruption in the Pungren–Mimi to Fakim road project sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Phase VIII.

An update from Kiphire DCC has termed the revelations brought to light through the Right to Information (RTI) Act as deeply troubling. Despite official records indicating that INR 727.06 lakh was released for the completion of a 20 km road project, on-ground verification reportedly showed that no substantive work was carried out.

“This stark contradiction between documented claims and physical reality raises serious questions about the integrity of the project and the conduct of those entrusted with its execution,” the statement read.

It stated that the dismissal of Tsumongthong Yim’s appeal to the First Appellate Authority of PWD (R&B) as a “misunderstanding” not only undermined the legitimacy of his concerns but also reflected a disturbing lack of transparency and accountability within the system. It added that his characterisation of the situation as a “travesty of justice” was not only justified but a wake-up call for all stakeholders in governance and civil society.

“This is not merely a case of financial malpractice. It is a betrayal of public trust, a denial of basic infrastructure to a remote community and a violation of the principles of equitable development,” the DCC added.

It stated that the alleged collusion between contractors and public officials, if proven true, represented a systemic failure that must be addressed with urgency and resolve.

It commended Yim for his resilience in the face of threats and pressures to abandon his pursuit of justice. It went on to state that his determination to continue advocating for the rights of his community is a powerful reminder that democracy thrives when citizens are empowered to speak out against injustice.

The Kiphire DCC has joined Yim in demanding a comprehensive and independent investigation into the road project and its financial records; legal and disciplinary action against all individuals found to be involved in corrupt practices; immediate steps to ensure the promised road connectivity is delivered to Fakim and adjoining areas and institutional reforms to strengthen transparency, oversight and whistleblower protection mechanisms.

It further stated that the case in question served as a turning point—not only for Fakim village but for all communities across Nagaland and India, who continue to suffer due to mis-governance and corruption. It called upon the state government to act decisively and restore faith in public institutions by ensuring justice is served and development reaches those who need it most.
