- KOHIMA — Three days after the Chakhesang
Students' Union (CSU) served the executive director of National Highways &
Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), Regional Office Kohima,
with a seven-day ultimatum for Kohima-Jessami road project (package-2), the
Kikruma Students' Union (KSU) has extended support to the CSU, demanding urgent
repair of the road.
- The KSU had, on May 4, written to the ED, NHIDCL, expressing
solidarity and support for the CSU.
- “As the village most directly and significantly affected by
the continued negligence and lack of progress on this crucial infrastructure
project, the Kikruma Students' Union shares its strong condemnation expressed
by the CSU towards the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation
Limited (NHIDCL) and EPC contractor M/s Ratna Infrastructure Project Pvt. Ltd.
for their gross negligence and continued failure to ensure the timely
development and maintenance of the Kohima-Jessami road (package 2),” it stated.
- The KSU asserted that the demands put forth by the CSU were
“just, necessary, and reflect the urgent need for immediate intervention.”

- It urged the NHIDCL to take immediate cognisance of the
concerns raised by the CSU and initiate swift and effective measures to address
the issues.
- It may be mentioned here that the Kohima-Jessami road
package-2, having a distance of 21.90 km, stretches from Chakhabama to Kikruma
from NH-29, which was previously known as NH 150.
- As of March 30, 2025, the ongoing project’s physical
progress stands at 10.69%, with financial progress is at 7.4%. The original
scheduled completion date is January 4, 2026.
