  • KOHIMA — The Chakhesang Students' Union (CSU) has once again issued an ultimatum to the executive director of NHIDCL Regional Office, Kohima, over the pathetic state of the Kohima-Jessami road (package 2).

  • In the ultimatum, the CSU expressed utmost displeasure towards the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and EPC construction firm Ratna Infrastructure Project Pvt. Ltd. for what it stated was their gross negligence and continued failure to ensure timely development and maintenance of the road.

  • The CSU was dismayed that no significant progress or tangible development has been made on this crucial road stretch in spite of multiple official representations submitted by the union.

  • It stated that with the monsoon season approaching, the current deplorable and worsening condition of the road poses a serious threat to commuters.

  • Accordingly, the union issued a 7-day ultimatum to NHIDCL to take immediate action and address the following critical concerns: repair all potholes to ensure safe and smooth travel; remove landslide debris and other blockages to restore unhindered vehicle movement; and ensure round-the-clock maintenance.

  • The union also demanded construction of proper drainage to withstand the impact of the monsoon and implementation of precautionary measures to safeguard travellers and minimise further damage.

  • It also emphasised the need to maintain proper drainage and water management infrastructure during construction to ensure durability and safety. The construction of the remaining portions must also continue at a fast pace so that a good and reliable road is made available to commuters at the earliest.

  • Failure to act within the stipulated time frame will compel the union to initiate stricter forms of protest and action, for which the agencies concerned will be held fully responsible, it stated.
