DIMAPUR — The Khulazu Basa Students’ Union (KBSU) has expressed alarm over the prolonged disruption of classes due to the ongoing agitation of the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) 2016 teachers, which it said has left classrooms paralysed for nearly a month.

In a press release, the union mentioned that students, particularly those in classes 9 and 10, are facing difficulties with unfinished syllabi as their final examinations approach.

It went on to say that in some government high schools, only one or no qualified teacher remains to handle senior classes, placing the academic future of students in grave danger.

KBSU maintained that while it recognises and sympathises with the RMSA teachers in their fight for justice and fair treatment, it cannot accept the silence and inaction of the Government of Nagaland, which has allowed the crisis to continue at the cost of students’ welfare. It said education is a fundamental right, and every lost day in the classroom is a loss that cannot be regained.

The union urged the government to immediately resolve the issue in the interest of justice both for the teachers and for the students and noted that any further delay is nothing short of negligence and a betrayal of the government's constitutional duty to safeguard the future of its young citizens.

It said that students' future cannot be held hostage to prolonged disputes, and if the matter is not resolved without further delay, the union will be left with no choice but to resort to stronger democratic measures of protest.

“Students are the backbone of tomorrow, and their future must not be sacrificed. Unless the government acts now with urgency and responsibility, both justice and education will stand denied,” it concluded.
