DIMAPUR — The Dimapur district unit of National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) has appealed to the state’s PWD (Roads and Bridges) to urgently repair and strengthen the Khughovi Bridge, citing growing safety risks for commuters and local residents.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the party reminded that the bridge, a vital link for daily travellers, schoolchildren, patients, emergency services, and the transport of essential goods between districts, has shown visible signs of deterioration and structural weakness.
It pointed out that the ongoing dry season is the ideal window for repair work, warning that delaying action until the monsoon could worsen damage and increase costs.
“Any untoward incident arising from neglect may lead to irreversible loss of lives, which could otherwise be prevented through timely intervention,” it stated, urging the department to treat the matter as a serious public safety concern.
The youth body also called for an immediate technical inspection, urgent repair and strengthening of the bridge, and the implementation of temporary safety measures until permanent repairs are completed.
