DIMAPUR — With weather conditions turning favourable for mosquito breeding, the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) has sounded a dengue alert for Nagaland, identifying January 30 to February 12 as a potential high-risk transmission window across major districts of the state.
In a public advisory issued on Saturday, the NVBDCP under the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare said that the alert was based on inputs from India Meteorological Department’s Climate Research and Services, Pune. It cautioned that prevailing climatic conditions during this period could significantly increase the risk of dengue transmission.
Urging heightened vigilance, the programme called upon all districts, stakeholders and communities to intensify preventive and control measures to curb mosquito breeding and protect public health.

The NVBDCP advised citizens to eliminate stagnant water in and around households, including flower pots, water containers, discarded tyres and other potential breeding sites. People were also asked to ensure proper covering of water storage containers, use mosquito nets, repellents and window screens, and wear full-sleeved clothing, particularly during early morning and evening hours.
Residents have been urged to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint or muscle pain, or skin rashes.
Calling for collective responsibility, the NVBDCP appealed to the public to actively participate in dengue prevention efforts to safeguard individual and community health. Citizens were advised to contact their nearest health facility for further information and assistance.
