A cultural troupe from Karbi Traditional Music and Cultural Research Institute (KTMCRI) will participate in the five-day 15th Cultural Olympiad of Performing Arts in Pattaya, Thailand.

DIPHU — A cultural troupe from Karbi Traditional Music and Cultural Research Institute (KTMCRI) under the Art & Culture Department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), will be participating in the five-day 15th Cultural Olympiad of Performing Arts from October 25 to 29 in Pattaya, Thailand.
The cultural festival is being organised by Akhil Bhartiya Shankruti Shan (ABSS) Global Council of Art & Culture, the official partner of UNESCO, which would bring together artistes and performers from across the globe. Different ethnic tribes and communities of India would perform at the festival.

The 20–member cultural troupe from Karbi Anglong comprised of 12 artistes and officials. The troupe would be led executive member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), in-charge Art & Culture Department, Surya Rongphar; tribal culture research officer (TCRO) of KAAC, Dilip Kathar and principal of KTMCRI of Art & Culture Department, Bonsam Kathar. The general secretary of Karbi Cultural Society (KCS), Sunil Tokbi; publicity secretary, Hingchong Tisso and office secretary, Suren Hanse, would also join in the team.
The troupe would perform a ten-minute medley of traditional Karbi dances depicting the agrarian and everyday life of the Karbis living in the hill. The presentation would include Ritnong chingdi (cultivating dance), Han Up Ahi Kebi (community bamboo shoot collection dance), Lengpum Sokchon (paddy pounding dance) and Hacha Kekan (post-harvesting dance).
The chief executive member of KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang, flagged off the team for Thailand this morning. He has wished them good luck and also appreciated the initiative of the Art Culture Department in taking the Karbi culture to the international stage.
