DIMAPUR — The Jalukie Pumling Youth Organisation (JPYO) has expressed deep disappointment and serious concern over the poor quality and prolonged delays in several ongoing developmental activities in the Jalukie jurisdiction following an inspection tour.
According to an update, the organisation carried out the inspection to assess the implementation status of various developmental schemes and projects undertaken by different departments in and around the area.
During the tour, the youth organisation observed that several building construction works under various departments in Jalukie town were not up to the expected standard.
The organisation alleged that the concerned contractors were found using low-quality construction materials, including local sand instead of Deo Pani sand, and other substandard materials. It stated that as these constructions are vital developmental projects, the use of inferior materials poses a serious threat to the structural foundation, durability, and future use of the buildings.
The DB Lane road construction was also found to be incomplete and unsatisfactory. The JPYO noted that on-site observations showed the road was constructed using only stone chips and compacted with a roller merely for formality, without the adequate use of essential construction materials.

This has made commuting more difficult for both drivers and pedestrians.
Furthermore, the construction of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana road from Jalukie town to Kamdi Bazaar has been delayed significantly. The organisation pointed out that while many other districts have completed and inaugurated similar projects, the work on this stretch remains unfinished.
Additionally, even the completed portions are already showing signs of deterioration due to the use of low-grade materials. The construction of culverts along the road was also found to be unsatisfactory, resulting in waterlogging and posing serious risks to commuters.
In view of these findings, the JPYO strongly urged the concerned departments and authorities to immediately conduct field verifications and ensure strict monitoring of all developmental works being implemented under various schemes and projects.
The JPYO added that it will continue to closely monitor developmental activities within its jurisdiction. It warned that any contractor, implementing agency, or concerned stakeholder found continuing to execute works below prescribed standards, causing unjustified delays, or failing to comply with DPR specifications will not be tolerated.
The organisation stated that it would initiate its own course of action and pursue further necessary measures in the interest of public accountability and quality development.
