DIMAPUR — A joint eviction drive was conducted on Monday by the governments of Assam and Nagaland at Khrishnapur under Liphanyan village and Haldibari under Wochan village, both located in Section-C of the Disputed Area Belt (DAB).
Speaking to the media, Border Magistrate of Uriamghat, Tsenthungo Ngullie, said that the eviction at Khrishnapur under Liphanyan was obstructed by villagers, who claimed the land falls within their jurisdiction.
He informed that villagers had earlier demolished around abandoned tenant houses, as some evicted illegal immigrants from other areas were attempting to take shelter there at night. Only a few RCC structures remained.

The Assam government proposed a joint demolition of these, but villagers opposed, maintaining that the area belonged to Liphanyan village.
Due to the objections, Ngullie said the eviction in Khrishnapur has been kept on hold pending further talks between the two state governments.
Meanwhile, a joint eviction at Haldibari under Wochan village saw 41 houses demolished. Plantation activities and pillar erections were also carried out at Bidyapur, he added.
