DIMAPUR — With the Armed Forces Special Powers Act already casting a long and sinister shadow over Nagaland, the Naga People's Front (NPF) has questioned former Chief Minister and Governor SC Jamir’s call for President’s Rule, contending that it would only add another layer of central control over the state.

In a rejoinder to Jamir’s remarks, the NPF described the proposal as an “ill motive to suppress our people through Army rule” and took exception to his comments about party Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon.

The party stated that personal exchanges should not overshadow the larger question of whether President’s Rule is warranted in Nagaland, arguing that the Naga political issue demands a discussion grounded in facts and present realities.

It also rejected Jamir’s references to Kikon’s political learning from “Hebron, Manipur or Kohima”, calling them factually unsupported and aimed at creating a misleading narrative about his political associations.

The NPF maintained that Kikon speaks “with all sincerity” on the Naga issue, both inside and outside the Assembly, and does not require political learning from any particular location.

The party maintained that the historical references cited by Jamir did not answer the central question: whether President’s Rule was warranted or justified in Nagaland today.
