Jalukie Town Gunners win Inaugural PDFA Women’s Football Cup

Jalukie Town Gunners FC defeated Jalukie Town Galacticos 4–0 to win the inaugural PDFA Women’s Football Cup in Peren district.

DIMAPUR — Jalukie Town Gunners FC emerged as the champions of the inaugural Peren District Football Association (PDFA) Women’s Football Cup after defeating Jalukie Town Galacticos FC 4–0 in the final played at Turf Ground, Jalukie town, on Saturday.


According to a press release issued by PDFA, the tournament was organised in collaboration with the Assam Rifles on the theme “Her game, her glory”. The three-day event aimed to promote women’s football and provide a platform for budding talent in the district.


The final witnessed a goalless contest until the 35th minute, when Nciepzeule opened the scoring for the Gunners. In the second half, Charakungliu added two goals in the 51st and 60th minutes before Thujovetsolu sealed the victory with a strike in the 65th minute.

The individual awards were presented as follows: Golden Glove to Namtuaheile (Heningkunglwa Youth Organisation), Best Defender to Thiurailiu (Jalukie Town Galacticos), Best Midfielder to Nchangwiliu (Jalukie Town Galacticos), Golden Boot to Charakungliu (Jalukie Town Gunners) with 9 goals, Best Striker to Thujovetsolu Vese (Jalukie Town Gunners), Player of the Tournament to Charakungliu (Jalukie Town Gunners), and Best Coach to Keheinam (Jalukie Town Gunners).


ADC Peren D Robin, who was the special guest, lauded PDFA for its role in promoting women’s sports, highlighting the importance of moving beyond traditional gender roles and encouraging equal representation in sports nationally and internationally. He also suggested making the tournament an annual event.


Guest of honour Brig. Mayank S Jamwal, commander of 6 Sector Assam Rifles, along with dignitaries including Col. Mohit Kumar Bansal and Maj. Anupam Mishra, attended the closing function and distributed prizes to the winners.


Roko Angami, OSD Sports, Department of Youth Resource and Sports, congratulated the organisers and expressed his plan to scout players from the tournament for the Nagaland team.
